Compline Choir to relocate performance to St. Cecilia

The Men’s Compline Choir of Bainbridge Island will be moving its Compline performance from Saint Barnabas Episcopal Church to Saint Cecilia Parish starting at 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5.

Compline, also called Night Prayer, is the last of the traditional daily services sung by monastic communities and dates back to at least the 8th century. The service consists of chant, readings, psalms, prayers, petitions and hymns, sung in a contemplative setting in a darkened church.

All are welcome to attend.

“Being that this is such a beautiful service and it welcomes all denominations and non-religious, I want to get the word out to the people of Bainbridge and surrounding communities,” said Jennifer Cunningham, Saint Cecilia Parish music director. “This is a group of roughly 20 male vocalists of multiple denominations, several of whom have sung together for 25 years.”

Saint Cecilia Parish is located at 1310 Madison Ave. North. The service will contiue at 8 p.m. on the first Sunday of every month.
