Chamber music series returns to St. Barnabas

“Intimate Music Series: Chamber Works at St. Barnabas,” a three-night series of intimate chamber music performances at Saint Barnabas Episcopal Church, will begin its fourth year in January with “Music for Nine … more or less.”

The kickoff concert is 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10.

“These concerts provide a chance to hear rarely performed chamber music jewels,” said Amy Duerr Day, director of Intimate Music Series: Chamber Works at St. Barnabas. “Performers are professional, including full-time Seattle Symphony members and members of other Seattle pro groups, and semi-professional musicians who all make a living, at least in part, from performing and teaching music.”

This year’s events promise unique collaborations featuring rarely performed mixes of strings and winds.

“Music for Nine … more or less” includes the works of Poulenc, Enesco, FH McKay, Honegger, Samazeuilh, Massenet and Gabriel Pierne.

Performers will include Peggy Brady (violin), Tom Monk (violin), Anne Burns (viola), Arlayne Eiseman (cello), Barbara Deppe (cello), Jane Christen (double bass), Suzanne Burton (flute), Amy Duerr Day (oboe), David Salge (clarinet), Judith Lawrence (bassoon) and Kestrel Wright (horn).

The series will continue with “Made in the USA” (featuring all American music) with Chris Thomas on trumpet and the Beau String Quartet at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 19, and “With Strings Attached” (featuring mixed quartets and quintets) at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19.

Tickets, $20 per person, $15 for seniors and student and free for children 16 and younger are available at the door and also at www.brownpapertickets.com.
