BPA to host ‘Xanadu’ auditions in January

Bainbridge Performing Arts will host auditions for the upcoming production of “Xanadu” on Tuesday, Jan. 9 and Thursday, Jan. 11 at BPA.

This Tony Award-nominated, uproarious, roller skating, musical adventure about following your dreams despite the limitations others set for you rolls along to the original hit score composed by pop rock legends Jeff Lynne and John Farrar.

An “outlandishly enjoyable” musical for adults, children, and anyone who has ever wanted to feel inspired, “Xanadu” is based on the Universal Pictures cult classic movie of the same title, which starred Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly.

Run dates are May 4-6, May 11-13, and May 18-20, with a pay-what-you-can preview on May 3. Rehearsals extend March 5 through May 2, Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., plus Saturdays from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“Xanadu” includes roles for seven to 10 women, ages 16 and up, and two to four men, ages 18 and up.

Those auditioning are requested to prepare a one to 1 1/2-minute monologue and 32 bars of a Broadway song. An accompanist will be provided but hopefuls must bring sheet music – clearly marked and in a three-ring binder. You may also sing acapella. All roles are open to audition, and interested parties may view a complete listing of characters online at www.bainbridgeperformingarts.org/collections/auditions.
