BIMA unveils new summer exhibitions

The Summer 2018 lineup at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art is slated to debut at a public opening/meet the artists party from 2 to 5 p.m., Saturday, June 23.

Admission is free; all are welcome.

BIMA’s summer shows will be on display through Sept. 30.

The new exhibitions include:

“Jenny Pohlman and Sabrina Knowles: Synchronicity – Twenty-five Years of Collaboration” (in the Feferman, Beacon and Lobby Galleries): Pohlman and Knowles showcase the compelling results of their 25 years of collaborative partnership, artwork grounded in the history of women from various times and civilizations. Informed through extensive research and travels, they have created diverse works in sculptural glass, metal, and mixed media. “Synchronicity” features art borrowed from private and public collections. BIMA is also publishing a book on their artistic career, due out in August.

“Canoe Journeys: Pulling Together” (in the Mesa and Orientation Galleries): Tribal Canoe Journeys began in 1989 with the “Paddle to Seattle,” and has continued annually since 1993. It is a celebrated event for the Indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest Coast. “Canoe Journeys” honors this annual celebration through art and personal storytelling. Included are carved and mixed media art paddles, sculptures, prints, photographs, and ephemera on loan. Artists featured include Robert Davidson, Alano Edzerza, Maynard Johnny, Troy Roberts, Marika Swan and Crystal Worl.

“Marceil Delacy: Into the Woods” (in the Davis Community and Garden Galleries): DeLacy carves beautiful and often humorous sculptures, sometimes transforming would-be rifle stocks into exquisite artwork. BIMA features DeLacy in her first solo art museum exhibition, with diverse carvings on two floors.

“Carrie Goller: Creatures Comfort” (in the Ellis Bistro Gallery): Goller’s exhibition draws from her animal paintings in various media including oil, watercolor and encaustic.

“Artist’s Books: Chapter 14 – Bound to Be Art” (in the Sherry Grover Gallery): BIMA’s Founder Cynthia Sears curates the next chapter of artist’s books from her extensive collection.

“BIMA@5: Selections from the Permanent Art Collection” (in the Lovelace Gallery): BIMA celebrates its fifth anniversary by showcasing some of the diverse artworks donated to the collection. Summer is the first of two rotations, to be continued in the fall. Artists featured include Larry ‘Ulaaq’ Ahvakana, Barbara Helen Berger, Steffen Dam, David Eisenhour, Denise Harris, Phillip Levine, James Minson, Peregrine O’Gormley, Ulrich Pakker, Julie Paschkis, Steve Parmelee, Joseph Rossano, Kurt Solmssen, and Julie Speidel and Kristin Tollefson.
