Best Bets for Jan. 20-22 | THE BAINBRIDGE BLAB

Given the inauguration on Friday and the incoming Commander-in-chief’s tendency toward xenophobic ramblings, you might be left feeling like it’s time to inject a little culture back into your weekend.

It just so happens that you’re in luck because on Friday at 7:30 p.m. you can catch the Anzanga Marimba Ensemble as they perform their fifth annual concert at Bainbridge Performing Arts. The troupe specializes in the beautiful melodies of Southern Africa, primarily Zimbabwe. The performance is sure to delight and just might be the remedy for day-one of a dreary, four-year forecast. Tickets can be purchased for $12 (adult) or $10 (child) at www.bainbridgeperformingarts.org

On Saturday, check out the world-inspired tunes of Moraine, coming to the next Space Craft show at Rolling Bay Hall. The quintet has built a reputation as one of the most electrifying and original instrumental rock bands anywhere, winning over listeners around the globe with its unique amalgam of art rock, forward-thinking jazz, Asian-inspired music, and more. If Moraine doesn’t sound quite like your cup of tea, you’re in luck yet again because the show is a double feature with the Buckminster-Fuller-inspired band, Trimtab, playing as well. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the show begins at 8 p.m. tickets are available at www.brownpapertickets.com for $12 or at the door for $15.

If by Sunday you’re still left feeling defeated, make your way over to the Eagle Harbor Book Company at 3 p.m. where Lori Tsugawa Whaley will impart some wisdom from her book, “The Courage of a Samurai: Seven Sword-Sharp Principles for Success.” In her book, Tsugawa Whaley presents principles from bushido as a guide for navigating life’s challenges. So you can leave prepared to deal with the challenges of a Trumpian future.
