Best Bets for Dec. 21-23 | The Bainbridge Blab

It’s the last shopping weekend before the big day, people. This is not a drill!

But if you’re in need of a break, or one of those super annoying people who’s already totally done with their shopping, and are looking to treat yourself to something fun (or a delightful distraction), this weekend it’s all about BIMA:

Beloved Bainbridge Island gypsy jazz masters Ranger and the Re-Arrangers will perform a special free concert — with special guest Simon Chrisman — at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22 at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art.

Chrisman, a hammered dulcimer virtuoso, grew up on Bainbridge, and brings an unusual style to an instrument previously thought to have limited range. His inventive playing in non-traditional genres is redefining the instrument, and promises a unique twist on the group’s regular offerings.

The concert will feature music from Ranger and the Re-Arrangers’ repertoire of swing standards and traditional gypsy melodies.

Reservations, which are recommended, can be made by contacting info@rangerswings.com.

FYI: The Bainbridge Island Museum of Art will close early on Monday, Dec. 24 and Monday, Dec. 31 to observe Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, respectively.

On both days the museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

BIMA will be closed all together on Tuesday, Dec. 25 for Christmas Day.

Bainbridge Island’s inD Theatre will stage a six-performance run of Dylan Thomas’ family holiday classic “A Child’s Christmas in Wales” at 1, 2 and 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22 and Sunday, Dec. 23 at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art.

The show will feature Brad Farwell, a seasoned professional actor who has performed at the Seattle Rep, A Contemporary Theatre, Intiman, Village Theatre and others, accompanied by cellist Arlayne Easeman.

Admission is free. Visit www.indtheatre.org to reserve tickets.

“A Child’s Christmas in Wales” was first recorded by Thomas in 1952. From Wikipedia: “Emerging from an earlier piece he wrote for BBC Radio, the work is an anecdotal reminiscence of a Christmas from the viewpoint of a young boy, portraying a nostalgic and simpler time. It is one of Thomas’ most popular works.”

“This half-hour performance could be the perfect complement to your holiday errands or outings with out-of-town visitors,” said Matt Eldridge, inD Theatre co-founder.

A Child’s Christmas in Wales’ is a heartfelt, poignant tale for families of all ages and, like all of our shows, is free to attend.”
