Bear Market Riot return to Lynwood stage

Hop in the microbus and head out onto the sunny open road with the infectious, chunky tunes of Bear Market Riot at 8 p.m. Saturday, June 9 at the Treehouse Café.

Bear Market Riot is “power-folk” and Americana music from California’s Central Coast, made up of Kirk Nordby (who grew up on the island, Bainbridge High School Class of 2005) and Nick Motil.

They last played at the Treehouse in June 2017.

In 2014, Nordby and Motil met at a songwriter showcase in San Luis Obispo, California.

Over a bowl of gumbo, the two conspired to busk together at the Baywood-Los Osos Farmers Market. Upon agreement that two beards are better than one, they became Bear Market Riot (Los Osos means “the bears”).

The duo blends everything from folk to hip-hop into an infectious sound. The Treehouse show is slated to contain catchy originals and an arsenal of high-energy, originally interpreted covers.

Admission is free, though donations are accepted.
