Bainbridge chapter joins Urban Sketchers group

Bainbridge Island Sketchers, organized by Paula Ensign in 2014, has become one of the newest chapters of Urban Sketchers, a 249-chapter strong international nonprofit dedicated to fostering “a global community of artists who practice on-location drawing.”

From Montreal to Rio de Janeiro, from London to St. Petersburg, from Stockholm to Capetown — and now on Bainbridge Island — members get together regularly to share their passion for drawing.

Gabriel Campanario, The Seattle Times’ “Seattle Sketcher,” founded Urban Sketchers in 2007. Its mission is to “raise the artistic, storytelling and educational value of on-location drawing, promoting its practice and connecting people around the world who draw on location where they live and travel.”

The Bainbridge Island Urban branch boasts 45 members, according to group spokeswoman Susan Jackson, and is recruiting more.

The members of the group have every level of drawing and painting experience, but all one needs is a desire to draw and paint while making new friends, Jackson said.

If you are a beginner (or even a pro) grab a sketchbook and a pencil and come to a sketch outing. Visit www.facebook.com/groups/2016793928642728/about for the group’s calendar, or write to urbansketchersbainbridge@gmail.com for more information.
