Auditions for March show upcoming at BPA

Bainbridge Performing Arts will hold auditions for their upcoming production of “Peter and the Starcatcher” on Monday, Dec. 4 and Tuesday, Dec. 5.

This Tony Award-winning show upends the century-old story of how a miserable orphan comes to be The Boy Who Would Not Grow Up (a.k.a. Peter Pan). From marauding pirates and jungle tyrants to unwilling comrades and unlikely heroes, this wildly theatrical adaptation playfully explores the depths of greed and despair — and the bonds of friendship, duty and love.

Run dates are March 9-11, March 16-18, and March 23-25, with a pay-what-you-can preview on March 8. Rehearsals extend Jan. 13 through March 7, and are planned for Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., plus Saturdays from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“Peter and the Starcatcher” includes 12 roles for actors age 12-70, plus an ensemble.

Those auditioning are requested to prepare a 1- to 1 1/2-minute monologue and 32 bars of a Broadway song. An accompanist will be provided, but actors must bring sheet music (clearly marked and in a three-ring binder).

Actors may also sing a capella. This is a play with four musical numbers, and not all characters will need to be strong singers.

The following characters’ singing features more prominently: Mrs. Bumbrake, Molly, Alf and Smee.

All roles are open to audition, and interested parties may view a complete listing of characters online at www.bainbridgeperformingarts.org/collections/auditions.
