We expected a professionally managed budget | Letter to the editor

To the editor:

Peter Bang-Knudsen needs to go back to math class?

Just two days after trumpeting the successful passing of school bonds to fund education on Bainbridge, we get news that funding is woefully short for Bainbridge schools.

Say what?

Why ask Bainbridge for an insufficient amount to fund the schools? We expect professional managers of our schools to be able to budget funds to educate our kids. They were way off to the tune of $2 million to $3 million. That’s a lot of teacher salaries.

This shortfall had to be known months ago. Now we have a “funding emergency” and need to decide among multiple poor options. Our schools are a fantastic Island resource and are recognized nationally. We pay for and deserve better.
