Swolgaard – a forward-thinking consensus builder | Letter to the editor

To the editor:

I’m writing to express my support for the reelection of Tom Swolgaard to the Bainbridge Island Metro Parks Board of Commissioners.

Tom has a long and well-documented history of involvement in our community. Since the mid-’90s, I’ve collaborated with him as a fellow Scout Leader. For the past 17 years, I’ve worked closely with him as a park commissioner. He and his wife raised their family on the island and now have grandchildren here. As a result, he is very connected with the issues and needs of all island generations. He’s always looking for ways to improve access to programs and facilities for all residents. His commitment to the youth and families of our community is unparalleled. Tom has been a driving force behind the district’s expansion of offerings for older adults. (This fall alone, the district is offering more than 50 classes and programs oriented our senior generation.)

He walks his talk. He has helped build many of the off-road routes we islanders walk on, including the Fairy Dell Trail, bridges in the Grand Forest, and the Port Blakely to Fort Ward Trail. He and his wife recently donated an easement that completes the trail connection between Winslow and Gazzam Lake.

Tom is a valued partner commissioner. He’s a forward-thinking consensus builder who is always looking to find win-win solutions. Bainbridge has benefited greatly from his knowledge, positive attitude, and dedication. Please join me in voting to return Tom Swolgaard as commissioner for Bainbridge parks.
