Student Conservation Corps deserves kudos | Letter to the editor

To the editor:

Thank you to the hardworking participants of the 2017 Student Conservation Corps for your significant work removing invasive weeds in our parks and open space, and thank you Bainbridge Review for sharing their story.

I had the pleasure of visiting the group as they battled the infestation of ivy at Williams Olson Park. They took on a daunting challenge of wrist-thick vines and that grove now breathes more easily for their efforts.

The parks foundation is delighted to have supported this park district program since it was a Sustainable Bainbridge pilot back in 2010. The 2017 SCoCo sessions are also supported by the Associated Bainbridge Communities Conservation/Education Fund and the Bainbridge Community Foundation.

Let’s all cheer for the 12,000-plus trees that have been cleared and will be maintained by SCoCo.

Donate to these organizations so the Student Conservation Corps continues. The health and beauty of our parks and open space depend on it!
