Please come back and learn more | Letter to the editor

To the editor:

A few days ago, the Bainbridge Island Japanese American Exclusion Memorial was “tagged” with graffiti. We were fortunate that the artist used chalk and we were able to clean the memorial surfaces fairly easily.

We would like to invite the artist to revisit the memorial with one of the docents from the historical museum. Hearing the stories that inspired our community to create the memorial will help the artist understand why the memorial is worthy of respect and protection, and not in need of decoration.

Artist, please call the historical museum and arrange a tour. Bring your parents, siblings and friends. We will all learn something in the process.

VAL TOLLEFSON

Secretary, Bainbridge Island Japanese American Exclusion Memorial
