Let’s move the council from mire of minutiae | Letter to the editor

To the editor:

Kevin Fetterly is a breath of fresh air in the contest for city council.

He brings a wealth of experience and a background very relevant to the challenges Bainbridge faces today. His commitment to the legacy of our natural beauty and environmental safeguards will ensure this island remains a great place to live, raise a family and enjoy retirement long into the future.

What lifts Kevin above the field is his understanding of how to have an efficient, yet inclusive process which leads to practical solutions and pragmatic outcomes.

With the limited financial resources the island can use the fresh priorities that Kevin will bring: concrete amenities such as bike lanes and sidewalks instead of consultants and defense attorneys. I served on the council for eight years and for as long as I can remember to the present day we have struggled to have a balanced regulatory environment which mediates between environmental protection and property rights and, as long as I can remember, this has resulted in a trail of lawsuits ongoing to the present day (most of which the city has lost).

Kevin has the education and intellectual curiosity to read, understand, and apply such important concepts as “best available science” and the aspects of the state constitution which constrain municipalities.

Notably, Kevin is very experienced in internet and cellular communications. With 5G on the way (and no new cell towers in 20 years) it is about time to refocus on wireless service — at a minimum allowing the towers to be a permitted use in Neighborhood Business zones (at no cost to taxpayers!).

It is time the council rises from a mire of minutiae to a higher level of productivity.

Join me in electing Kevin Fetterly for a Council that works.
