BISD is fortunate for community support | Letter to the editor

To the editor:

On behalf of the Bainbridge Island School District, I would like to thank the voters of Bainbridge Island for their support of BISD’s recent Capital Project Levy.

While we are waiting for Kitsap County to certify the election, with 62.5 percent approving the levy, it is safe to say that the ballot measure passed. Thank you for investing in our students, our schools, and our future.

As stewards of your tax dollars, we take our responsibility seriously and with much gratitude. We strive to construct buildings to last for generations, while also making decisions to keep costs in line. This balance equates to well-designed buildings with high degrees of energy efficiency and ease of maintenance.

Construction of the new Blakely Elementary is well underway and scheduled to open fall 2019. Look for a community-wide celebration and open house later this year. We can’t wait to show you the new learning environment!

Thanks to voter support of the recent levy, construction of the new 100 Building and auditorium on the Bainbridge High School campus will begin this summer. The project is slated to be completed in winter 2021. Again, the community will be invited to celebrate these new educational spaces and public resources. In addition to the new construction, the levy provides funds for essential repairs and renovations and allows us to maintain our seven schools and district facilities.

I am constantly reminded of how fortunate BISD is to operate with a supportive community who values the role of public education. Every day, you make a difference in the lives of our students!
