Bicyclists are good for the planet

To the editor:

Mr. Rob Albert’s letter suggesting bicyclists should redistribute some wealth for the apparent freedoms of movement and cost enjoyed by this transportation method, I would submit the following should also be considered in evening out the balance sheet.

That list includes, in no particular order, less congestion on our roads, less need for more roads, less need for parking in cities, better air quality and better health.

While nothing forgives rudeness from bicyclists, having biked for years I can tell you it’s a two-way street when it comes to poor behavior, and ultimately it is the biker who is the most vulnerable. Every bicyclist is one less car on the road, and that is a cost saving for our planet that is hard to beat.
