Bestselling author Neil Gaiman pledges a holiday visit the bookstore with the best ‘Graveyard’ bash.

Both independent bookstores in the North End — Eagle Harbor Books on Bainbridge and Liberty Bay Books in Poulsbo — are celebrating the season with free community events based on British author Neil Gaiman’s ‘The Graveyard Book.’

The Newberry Award-winning book — given to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children — is the first middle-grade novel for the New York Times’ bestselling author of “Coraline.”

The book introduces the graveyard-dwelling Nobody Owens — known to his friends as Bod.

The Eagle Harbor ‘Graveyard Party’ is Thursday at 157 Winslow Way on Bainbridge, while Liberty Bay will be decorating the Haven Vei courtyard in downtown Poulsbo as Nobody Owens’ graveyard, hosting a costume contest and other ghastly activities starting at 5 p.m. Oct. 30.

Gaiman has promised a holiday visit to the independent bookstore that submits the best YouTube clip from their ‘Graveyard Party.’
