Island Music Guild to host open house Saturday

The Island Music Guild will host an open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14.

The event will feature several performances by guild faculty members, a silent auction, an "instrument petting zoo" for kids as well as informative presentations by noted area musicians — including a discussion with music teacher and author Bonnie Blanchard titled "Why Music Matters."

Kicking off the event will be a Music Together demonstration at 11 a.m. in Classroom One, lead by guild instructor Heather Scott. Music Together is a program that provides families a place to come together each week to sing, dance, play instruments and experience making music together. The demo is appropriate for children ranging in age from infants to 5 years old.

Founded in 1999 by a group of Bainbridge Island music teachers, the Island Music Guild is a thriving community music school with individual and group lessons, classes and camps. In addition, the group sponsors at least one music event a week and provides an informational resource center, recording facility and community gathering spaces.

The guild is located at 10598 NE Valley Road. For more information about the open house or classes currently being offered, visit or call 206-780-6911.
