Author to visit Winslow bookstore

Seattle writer and illustrator Katherine Pryor will help celebrate the joys of kids and gardens as she shares her delightful picture book, “Sylvia’s Spinach,” at Eagle Harbor Book Company next month.

The tale about a girl who says she hates spinach takes a turn when her teacher hands her a pack of spinach seeds to plant for a school garden.

A long-time advocate of sustainable food, farm-to-school funding, and school gardens, Pryor will have a tasting and will join in recognizing some of the great school gardens on Bainbridge Island. Kids will also be encouraged to bring, email or post pictures of the craziest place they have ever grown a plant.

The special event is 3 p.m. Sunday, June 9.
