Stein and Dubus read back-to-back
Two literary heavy-hitters, Garth Stein and Andre Dubus III, will read from their latest novels this week.
Stein’s “The Art of Racing in the Rain” is told from the point of view of Enzo, a loyal canine preturnaturally blessed with the philosophical and insightfully generous gift of gab.
On the eve of his death, Enzo looks back on his life with his master, Denny Swift, and his family.
Stein, the author of two other novels, “How Evan Broke His Head and Other Secrets” and “Raven Stole the Moon,” lives in Seattle and will make the ride over at 7:30 p.m. Thursday to Eagle Harbor Book Co.
Dubus, author of National Book Award finalist “House of Sand and Fog,” will present his latest, “The Garden of Last Days” as part of the West Sound Reads program at 7 p.m. June 27 at Island Center Hall.
Hank and Patsy, together again
Kick up your heels this Saturday night for the 4th annual Hank Williams and Patsy Cline tribute festival.
Beginning at 5 p.m. June 28, area bands will perform all-Hank-and-Patsy, all the time, at the Barn at Hazel Creek Farm, 8903 Koura Road.
Bands will include the South of Kingston Trio, Trixie, Bubbles & Flo with the Cadillac Cowboys & Pipes, Chele’s Kitchen, Susan Welch & Billy Forrester, Get the Oxygen Tank and many others.
Admission is $10, or $5 for seniors and kids under 15. They’ll be available at the door, but advanced tickets are recommended; last year the crowd was so large that organizer Norm Johnson had to head people off at the gate.
