Registration starts for BPA theater workshop

May 13, 2013 · 8:44 AM

The Bainbridge Performing Arts Theatre School has opened registration for its Senior Adult Musical Theater Workshop.

The six-week musical theater workshop is for ages 50 and up, and classes will be held May 20 through June 28.

Josh Anderson, who recently music directed “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” will lead the class with Barbara Deering, an acting coach and veteran BPA performer.

The workshop will build skills in singing, acting and movement for adults of all levels of experience. No previous experience is necessary.

BPA’s senior adult program is designed to encourage adults who have never tried theater to develop new skills and to offer experienced adults a forum to polish their craft.

Education director Victoria Whitlow said BPA is thrilled to offer such a unique experience to this group of adult performers on Bainbridge Island.

“To work with theater professionals and be able to share their art with the community is what we strive to accomplish through all of our theater school programming,” Whitlow said.

Full group rehearsals will meet at 10 a.m. on Mondays and Thursdays, and end with small group or private sessions in the early afternoon. The workshop will culminate in a final performance on the BPA stage and may tour as part of the organization’s outreach program to local assisted living communities.

The workshop will be held at Bainbridge Performing Arts, 200 Madison Ave. North.

The cost for the workshop is $175.  Registrations are taken on a first-come, first-served basis and are processed when accompanied by at least 50 percent of class fees due.

BPA has need-based scholarships available thanks to the generous contributions of donors to the theatre school.
