Island ballet team dances up a storm

The Bainbridge Ballet Dance Team took the stage for its first seasonal competition and dazzled the judges at the recent Thunderstruck dance competition.
The team is composed of girls between sixth and 10th grades who participate at Bainbridge Ballet.
The dance team entered the three-day regional dance competition from Feb. 22-24 in Seattle. The competition featured more than 50 performances spanning an eclectic array of dance styles.
The island dancers put forth 11 dance pieces. The team started practicing the new dances in September, and the practice paid off: Each routine earned gold or better.
Josie Hill also won 10th place for a musical theatre solo in the junior division.
Sara Dalessi took 10th place in the senior division for her jazz solo.
Oksana Serbina earned third place for her lyrical jazz solo.
Serbina, along with Maddie Cole and Claire Branley, won second place in the senior division for their trio performance of a lyrical jazz piece.
Sarah Dalessi, Sydney Dalessi, Kate Houmes and Megan Sellman took 10th place for their tap performance in the teen small group competition.
Sellman, Sydney Dalessi and Sara Dalessi earned eighth place in the teen musical theatre trio category.
Branley, Cole, Serbina, Sarah Dalessi, and Sydney Dalessi took seventh place for their ballet piece in the teen small group category. Judges also cited them as the most graceful dancers in the entire competition for the performance.
Mia Creterolo, Dana Craighead, Josie Hill and Houmes also were honored for their lyrical jazz piece during the upcoming teen section.
Serbina also won a special prize of a full-paid scholarship to go to the Thunderstruck finals to be held in Las Vegas.
