Summer jazz at the Island Gallery

Just in time for (sort-of) summer is the Island Gallery’s Summer Jazz series. Perennial faves Ranger and the Re-Arrangers will entertain next with award-winning originals, swing standards and traditional gypsy tunes.

Tickets are $20/$10; the show is at 8 p.m. June 6 at the gallery, 780-9500.

Chamber music crosses the water

BPA’s next Declassified Chamber Music concert will showcase “Music From Britain and America.” At 3 p.m. June 8 at Bainbridge Performing Arts, young musicians will join older colleagues in a program of works by Elgar, Bridge, Copland, Gottschalk, Rzewski and Fine. The multimedia “prelude” to the program’s two sections will be presentations of Benjamin Britten’s “Night-Piece” and Aaron Copland’s “Midday Thoughts,” co-produced by Steven Fogell and students from West Sound Academy. Tickets are $10 at 842-8569.

Island stories

and fare to share

If you’re of a mind to go outdoors on a Sunday afternoon, stop by the Bainbridge Island Historical Society’s annual summer potluck at noon June 8 on the museum grounds, 215 Ericksen Ave.

The event is open to the whole community; just bring a dish to share, and ideally, a few stories of yore. For information, call 842-2773 or email info@bainbridgehistory.net.
