The Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra announced violinist Marianne Martinoli, 15, of Monroe as their 2013 Young Artist Concerto Competition winner.
Pianist Benjamin Salman of Seattle came in second with his performance of the first movement of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat major called “Emperor.”
Honorable mentions for the competition were pianists Mya King of Silverdale and Michael Lee of Issaquah.
As the winner, Martinoli will perform the Julius Conus “Concerto for Violin in E minor” at the BSO’s final season performances on May 31 and June 2.
It is the BSO’s 40th Anniversary Season, and in addition to Martinoli’s solo performance, the orchestra will premiere a piece composed special for the anniversary by Brett Kroening.
Altogether an exciting program, the BSO will feature works by Barber, Kroening and Hindemith, including Hindemith’s “Symphonic Metamorphosis.”
This final season performance will follow the upcoming Feb. 23 and Feb. 24 concert weekend, “The Grand and The Pastoral,” which will feature works by Smetana, Tchaikovsky and Beethoven. Guest cellist Elizabeth Lee will perform two works for cello and orchestra.
Tickets for BSO performances are $19 for adults and $16 for seniors, students, military and teachers; youth are free with the accompaniment of a paying adult; call 842-8569 to order.
