New audition date for ‘A Chorus Line’

Bainbridge Performing Arts has scheduled a new, additional audition date for its highly anticipated May production of “A Chorus Line.”

Auditions are by appointment only on Tuesday, Jan. 22; interested parties should email dhadlock@bainbridgeperformingarts.org.

“A Chorus Line” will be led by the artistic team that brought BPA’s “The Rocky Horror Show” and “Chicago” to the stage, and offers roles for actors ages 17 and up.

Those auditioning are required to prepare a 1- to 2-minute monologue and a 1- to 2-minute Broadway-style song. An accompanist will be provided but participants must bring their own sheet music; respondents are also welcome to sing a cappella. Participants are requested to bring a headshot or a current picture to the audition.

Rehearsals will be from February through May, and "A Chorus Line" will be presented on May 10, 11, 12, 17, 18, 19, 24, 25, and 26. A pay-what-you-can preview is May 9.

"A Chorus Line" features some of musical theatre’s most well-loved songs such as "One," "Dance: Ten; Looks: Three," "At the Ballet" and "What I Did for Love."

Considered by many to be “the show that remade Broadway,” the 1975 musical was a box office and critical hit, receiving 12 Tony Award nominations and winning nine of them. The show won the 1976 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, one of the few musicals ever to receive the honor, and the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best Play of the season.
