Treehouse Café hosts guitar masters

Guitar masters Rob Ikes and Jim Hurst will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8 at the Treehouse Café.

Ickes, a founding member of Blue Highway, is recognized as one of the most innovative Dobro players on the scene today, expanding the boundaries of the instrument.

He won the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Dobro Player of the Year award for a record-setting 11th time in 2009 to become the most awarded instrumentalist in the history of the IBMA awards. As an active session player and touring musician, he has collaborated with a wide range of musicians, including Charlie Haden, Merle Haggard, Earl Scruggs, Tony Rice, David Grisman, Alison Krauss, Willie Nelson, David Lee Roth, Dolly Parton, Patty Loveless, Peter Rowan, Claire Lynch and Mary Chapin Carpenter.

Hurst is a remarkable performer and a highly sought after session musician.

He got national exposure with Holly Dunn’s Rio Band, playing acoustic guitar and mandolin, and singing harmonies; followed by several high profile television and radio appearances while touring with Trisha Yearwood.

He joined the Grammy-nominated Claire Lynch and her Front Porch String Band in 1995 where he teamed up with kindred spirit bassist Missy Raines. They earned IBMA Guitar and Bass Player of the Year for 2001 and 2002.
