November 10, 2012 · 10:16 AM
Gypsy jazz quintet Ranger and the Re-Arrangers will host a concert with special guest and master guitarist Roger Ferguson at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10 in the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art auditorium.
Ferguson has earned national acclaim for decades as a performer, composer and teacher. He won the Flatpick Guitar Championship in 1979, toured with Mark O’Connor, and opened shows for music legends Merle Haggard, Taj Mahal, Doc Watson, and Emmylou Harris. Off-stage, he composed and recorded music for PBS documentaries, and published guitar lessons in Guitar Player magazine.
The concert will feature music from Ranger and the Re-Arrangers’ repertoire of American swing standards, traditional gypsy melodies, and the music of Django Reinhardt. Young violinist Ranger Sciacca will provide the counterpoint to Ferguson’s improvisations.
Admission is $10.
