Choral Arts will present a concert of a cappella masterworks next month on Bainbridge Island.

Now in its 20th year, the Seattle-based ensemble is dedicated to inspiring, educating and enriching the community through the transformational power of great choral music. Choral Arts will perform “I Will Lift Mine Eyes” on Saturday, Oct. 6 at Grace Episcopal Church. A pre-concert talk is at 7, with the concert at 7:30 p.m.

As a new tradition, 15 minutes prior to the start of each performance this season, artistic director Robert Bode and members of Choral Arts will lead the audience in a sing-along of popular songs, folk tunes and hymns. Songs such as “Shall We Gather at the River,” “Simple Gifts” and “O What a Beautiful Mornin’” will be led, and Choral Arts will print the words to the songs in the concert program.

“I hope that the singalong will remind all of us that a choral concert is a collaboration between those of us in the chorus and those of us in the audience,” Bode said. “A concert is a shared thing. We are a community of music lovers who come together to share our love for singing. And so, for a few minutes before we settle into our roles of performer and listener, we will sing together.”
