West Sound Reads! presents Peter Heller, author of “The Dog Stars,” a dystopian novel of life after a flu pandemic, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, at the Poulsbo Library.

Publishers Weekly gave the book a starred review, saying “this novel, perhaps the world’s most poetic survival guide, reads as if Billy Collins had novelized one of George Romero’s zombie flicks. From start to finish, Heller carries the reader aloft on graceful prose, intense action, and deeply felt emotion.”

The novel has local ties, too, as Bainbridge Island’s Sage fishing rods play a part in this survival tale.
