Fourth-graders’ artwork graces Blackbird Bakery

March 31, 2012 · 10:23 AM

Artwork from fourth-graders at Wilkes Elementary School will be on display at Blackbird Bakery during the month of April.

As part of the Bainbridge Island School District’s art curriculum, students viewed the work of pop artist Wayne Theibold before using chalk pastels to create their own cake drawings emulating his style.

Focusing on shape, color and perspective, students practiced drawing and shading cylinders in order to design more realistic looking images of cakes.

With the theme of cakes, it is appropriate that 16 of the drawings in chalk pastel will be on display at Blackbird during the month of April. The show opening and an artists’ reception is during the next Art Walk, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 6.
