Great Decisions continues with discussion on energy geopolitics
March 28, 2012 · 3:02 PM
Great Decisions at the Library continues with the topic of energy geopolitics at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 31 at the Bainbridge Public Library.
Drop by the library for coffee, a short film, and a lively discussion at the concluding program of this year’s series.
The energy markets have been shaken by the instability of Middle East oil and the vulnerability of nuclear power. Moreover, developing countries like China are becoming bigger energy consumers, while energy producers like Russia see the opportunity to widen their influence. In the face of shrinking oil reserves and growing environmental threat, new technology for alternative energy is essential.
In this changed landscape, how will the U.S. confront the challenges surrounding the world’s limited natural resources, and how will America’s energy needs affect its relations with other nations?
The discussion will be moderated by Jimmy Jia, CEO of Distributed Energy Management, which commercially develops Smart Grid technologies. Jia is also an instructor at the Bainbridge Graduate Institute.
The series is co-sponsored by the Bainbridge Island Arts & Humanities Council and the Kitsap Regional Library. Info: 206-842-7901 or www.bainbridgeartshumanities.org.
