Island resident wins scholarship

Western Washington University student Kathryn Marie Bachen, the daughter of Bruce and Diane Bachen of Bainbridge Island, has received a $2,000 Mount Baker Product Design Scholarship for the 2013-2014 academic year.

The Mount Baker Products Design Center Scholarship is a plywood design competition with the objective to design and construct unique furniture for community nonprofit organizations. The judges consist of Western professors and downtown Bellingham woodworking organizations.

Bachen is a sophomore majoring in industrial design. She graduated from Bainbridge High School in 2005.
