Toastmasters cheer 10th birthday

The Toastmasters of U Speak Easy invite the public to join them in celebrating their 10th anniversary next week in the clubhouse at the Winslow Arms Apartments.

U Speak Easy got its start with a charter from Toastmasters International, a worldwide organization committed to empowering individuals to become more effective communicators and leaders, in 2003.

Guests at the club’s anniversary celebration will see a typical Toastmasters meeting in action with members delivering prepared speeches and speech evaluations. A portion of the meeting will feature extemporaneous talks of two minutes or less in response to questions posed by the designated table topics master. Members and visitors may participate in this relaxed phase of the meeting.

As part of the celebration, the club will introduce its new officers who will serve starting July 1 through June 2014.

The gathering starts at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, June 26. Winslow Arms Apartments is at 220 Parfitt Way SW.

Bainbridge Island is home to two Toastmasters clubs. U Speak Easy Toastmasters meets from 7:15 to 8:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesday of every month. In addition, Bainbridge Island Toastmasters meets from noon to 1 p.m. on the first and third Thursdays. Both clubs meet in the Winslow Arms Apartments clubhouse.

Toastmasters is open to new members and welcoming visitors at every meeting, and the club provides a supportive and positive learning experience in which members are empowered to develop communication and leadership skills, resulting in greater self-confidence and personal growth.
