Soroptimists International of Greater North Kitsap recently presented a donation check for $1,000 to Bainbridge Youth Services to be used for the expanded support of resource programs, counseling and mental health services for students and parents of the Bainbridge Island School District.

The recent beneficiary award brings the total donation this year to $1,500 to support this unique 50-year-old service program. Since 1962, Bainbridge Youth Services has provided free mental health counseling for youths from 12 to 19.

Soroptimists International of Greater North Kitsap has been sponsoring “Bras for a Cause” for the past six years and “Baubles, Boots and Bags” for the first time in November 2012 to raise funds for donations to local service organizations and programs helping women and children.

The “Bras for a Cause” auction is the service club’s main fundraising event, and this year’s gala is scheduled for May 18 at Kiana Lodge in Poulsbo.

Since July 2012, the local service club has donated $18,850 to local beneficiaries. Donations were made to Central Kitsap Food Bank, Habitat for Humanity, NK Fishline, YMCA Alive Shelter, Bainbridge Youth Services, Sharenet, Stand-Up for Kids, Peninsula Cancer Center, North Kitsap Boys and Girls Club, Harrison Medical Center, Hospice of Kitsap County, and West Sound Academy.
