The Minnesota-based company 3M awarded a $30,832 grant to IslandWood in support of its educational programs for Bainbridge Island’s young minds.
IslandWood will use the grant money to support its Homewater’s program on Bainbridge. The learning center will take fifth-grade students from Sakai Intermediate School to Murden Creek over the coming year. Students will learn about habitat, conduct experiments, make maps and learn how humans affect watersheds.
“This program uses environmental education to engage young people in science and technology and provides a pathway for environmental stewardship that could impact the health of the watershed in IslandWood’s backyard. We are thrilled to be partnering with Sakai Intermediate School and the Bainbridge Island School District on this project,” said John Haskin, IslandWood’s senior vice president of education.
