Kitsap Audubon gathers for program on Western Songbirds

November 6, 2012 · 9:13 AM

Kitsap Audubon meets at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8 at the Poulsbo Library.

Daniel Froehlich will present the program “Molt Migration and Other Tricks of Western Songbirds.” Froehlich is an ornithologist, tour guide and field researcher and is dedicated to conservation by improving understanding. He is also the founder of Puget Sound Bird Observatory and OrnithoLogistics.

Washington gardeners quickly learn to deal with our dry summers, so what do Washington birds do? Our western songbirds have evolved unusual strategies to deal with an environment that is remarkably dry in late summer. Froehlich will talk about the adaptations, including molt migration and upslope drift, that make our yard birds special and the research involved.
