Harvest Fair work party is this Saturday

September 13, 2012 · 4:16 PM

The island’s annual Harvest Fair is less than a month away. The event will showcase the island’s rural roots at the Johnson Farm on Sept. 30.

But it doesn’t come without a little elbow grease.

Friends of the Farms is asking for volunteers for a work party from 10 a.m to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15.

Volunteers are needed to cut grass and groom the Johnson Farm to prepare it for the approximately 3,000 people who will come by to take part in sheep sheering, horse-drawn carriages tractor rides, pie-eating contests and more.

Volunteers are encouraged to bring rakes, gloves and other tools.

A free farm-fresh lunch will be provided at noon.
