Caitlin Elisabeth Gerdts and Joshua Sean Gruber were married in a small civil ceremony in New York, N.Y. on May 2, 2012.

The wedding was attended by their closest friends and family and the 100-year-old grandmother of the groom, May Gruber.    They then celebrated their recent nuptials with gourmet food, drink and dancing hosted at the home of dear family friends, the Maitras, in Saratoga, Calif.

The bride, a 1998 graduate of Bainbridge High School, is the daughter of George and Eva Gerdts, long-time island residents and the founders of Hyla Middle School. Joshua Gruber is the son of Lisa Gruber, a resident of Berkeley, Calif. The bride and groom are both doctoral students in epidemiology at the University of California, Berkeley.

The newlyweds returned to their San Francisco home, where they will be writing their dissertations for the rest of the summer.
