Bainbridge Arts and Crafts has awarded three college scholarships to Bainbridge Island graduating high school seniors.
The $2,000 Pauli Family Scholarship, given for accomplishment in a variety of mediums, was awarded to Kai F. Delphinidae; the $1,000 Rosalyn Gale Powell Scholarship, given for accomplishment in one medium, was awarded to Karya Shanilec. BAC’s new $1,000 Sissel Feroy Scholarship went to Alexandra McCarrel.
Delphinidae will attend the Evergreen State College next year. BAC jurors noted his great sense of design supported by line quality and attention to detail.
Schanilec will attend Willamette University. The jurors were impressed by her body of dance photographs. They noted her good sense of composition and her use of contrast, and said “her passion for dance shines through.”
McCarrel, who will attend Linfield College, submitted sculptures made of found objects. The juror complimented her creative use of materials, her sense of color and her well-written artist statement.
Ellin Spenser, president of the board of trustees for Bainbridge Arts and Crafts, awarded the scholarships at Senior Awards Night on June 7.
