Island real estate sales for January

Real estate statistics on Bainbridge Island for the month of January continued to be flat, according to the Northwest Mulitiple Listing Service.

Residential sales for January 2009 with January 2008 in parenthesis: Median price – $538,500 ($562,000); highest price was $1,250,000 ($1,290,00) 12 sold (9).

Condo sales for January 2009: Median price – $191,000 (none); one sold (none).

Land sales for January 2009: Median price – $3 million (none); one sold (none).

One Call for All has a new board

The island nonprofit One Call for All has appointed nine new members to its 2009 Board of Directors.

They are Howard Block, Marina Cofer-Wildsmith (secretary), Jon Green, Brian Lawler, Mary McCurdy, Tami McDaniel, Lori Midthun, Pat Murray and Kaycie Wood.

They join sitting directors Gladys Bloedow, Brad Greene, Kol Medina, Mark Lund (president), Biz Dailiey Allen (vice president) and Els Heyne (treasurer).

The board members are appointed to serve three-year terms.

Doozie adds estate services

Doozie Design Service, which includes seamstress and upholstery work on Bainbridge Island, has added an estate service.

Owner Dee DuMont and a group of specialists in collectibles, antiques and other secondary market sales, will assist people wishing to hold a garage or estate sale.

Doozie offers consulting, pricing and appraisal, organization and set-up, and/or day-of-sale management.

KEDA hosts small business seminar

The Kitsap Economic Development Alliance is hosting a seminar for small businesses titled “Business Success When Times are Tough.” The seminar will give business owners the information they need to sustain their businesses during trying economic times.

It will be from 7 a.m. to noon Feb. 27 at the Oxford Suites, 9550 Silverdale Way NW in Silverdale. Registration is $20.

Island businesses coming/going

Ambrosia will be closing in March. The space is for lease; call Suzanne at (206) 920-8796 if interested.

Andante has new owners, Wayne and Bonnie Frederickson. They have 26 years in the catering business.

Kennedy & Kate has moved to Winslow Way next to Blackbird Bakery.

Sweet Deal is also moving to Winslow Way, where they’ll be sharing Roby King’s space. A new shoe store is expected to fill Sweet Deal’s old space.

BIDA offering workshops

The Bainbridge Island Downtown Association is offering several business workshops in 2009, beginning with “Entrepreneurial Rejuvenation” on March 19.

The workshops will be held from 8:30-10 a.m. at a location yet to be determined. Costs are $25 for BIDA members and $35 for non-members.

Six workshop scholarships are available, based on financial need.

Coupon books available soon

Buy Local coupon books will soon available to benefit local businesses and nonprofit organizations.

The books were developed by the Chamber of Commerce in partnership with BIDA and local community groups.

Merchants can buy-in (Feb. 28 deadline) for $50 per coupon, with up to 3,000 books being distributed, beginning in April. The retail cost is $10 each
