The Blue Ocean Café, which opened three months ago in the Meridian Complex at 360 Knechtel Way, was created to establish a place where islanders and business people can meet or attend special group seminars and presentations.

The menu includes coffee, pastries, bagels, waffles and specialty egg sandwiches during the morning hours and an assortment of grilled panini and sandwich melts during lunch. It also offers an array of salads and soups, and daily specials. Specialty wines, beer and hors d’oeuvres are also available.

The café is co-owned by David and Diane Beck, and Charlie and Carolyn Frame. It is currently open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Hours will expand into the evening hours in the fall.

Guitar shop now open on Madison

Willy Houston, an island resident for more than four years who has built and repaired guitars for 30 years, opened Willy’s Guitar Works three weeks ago at 219 Madison Ave. South.

Houston builds made-to-order electric solid-body guitars and repairs guitars of all types. He also gives playing lessons at his shop, which is located behind Madrona School. Houston also sells a line of guitar pickups he created, called Rocket Pickup.

Houston has worked for several guitar manufacturers over the years, including Jackson Guitars in Ontario, Calif., Yamaha Corp. and Wamoth Guitar Products in Puyallup.

Willy’s Guitar Works is opened from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
