Light-bulb exchange set

Puget Sound Energy, Ace Hardware and the Bainbridge Island Chamber of Commerce are teaming up for a light-bulb exchange event on Saturday, Oct. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the hardware store on High School Road.

Puget Sound Energy will exchange incandescent bulbs with Energy Star lighting for free. Customers can bring up to four incandescent bulbs in exchange four 13-watt CFL bulbs, which also will be sold for $1 apiece – up to four bulbs. Customers also will receive a LED holiday light string if they purchase three specialty bulbs or one indoor fixture. Supplies are limited, and only Puget Sound Energy residential customers are eligible. Please bring a PSE utility bill and identification to qualify for the promotion. PSE reps will be available for more energy-saving tips.

Safeway offers alcohol tasting

The Safeway store on High School Road is one of 30 Washington grocery stores that will participate in a year-long wine and beer tasting pilot the runs from Oct. 1 to Sept. 30, 2009.

The program, which is split evenly between independent- and chain-owned stores, will be operated by the Washington State Liquor Control Board. Each store is limited to no more than one tasting event per month in a designated tasting area, and a minimum of six over the course of the pilot. Beer and wine samples must be two ounces or less, and customers (21 or over) can have up to a total of four ounces.
