It’s no secret that the island loves its wines. But Californian crowds were recently treated to a taste of Bainbridge, and they approved.
Rolling Bay Winery’s 2010 Manitou Red wowed critics and won a Gold medal at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. It was the first time Rolling Bay has ventured to California to stand its bottle up against their golden state counterparts.
The competition is the largest of American wines in the world. Approximately 5,500 entries were submitted for this year’s competition, representing 25 states. The competition’s 60 judges critiqued wines spanning 102 categories.
Manitou Red took the gold medal in the bordeaux blends category out of 45 other wines.
The wine has previously won double gold and gold awards at Washington competitions, such as the Seattle Wine Awards.
The winery is located in Rolling Bay, on the east side of the island.
