Bainbridge bicycle shops roll to new locations

Bicycle shops move, but not far
Spring is apparently moving time for bicycle shops, at least on the island, where both Bainbridge Island Cycle and Classic Cycle have relocated their businesses during the last few weeks.
BI Cycles move barely qualifies as a relocation since it went from 162 Bjune Dr. to 124 Bjune Dr., where it has claimed an area previously occupied by Napa Auto Parts. The move literally involved only a few feet from one space in the building to another. The amount of new space isnt much different than the old unit, but the layout is better. And customers shouldnt have any problems locating where Tom Clunes business now sits.
That shouldnt be difficult for customers of Classic Cycle either, which is still located on Winslow Way, though it moved four blocks east across State Route 305 to 740 Winslow Way.
Owners Jeff Groman and Els Heyne purchased the two-unit space on the bottom floor of Harbor Square, moving two weeks ago from a large space but a cramped 1,000-square-foot showroom to 3,000 feet and high ceilings. Its a gorgeous space, Heyne said. People come in and look around and their jaws drop. It also gives us more room for our antiques. We love it.
Classic also has added a line of electric scooters, which sell for between about $1,900 and $2,600 and can be navigated without a drivers license, she said. Their maximum speed is about 30 miles per hour.
Heyne said Bainbridge is definitely big enough for two bicycle shops located within a few blocks of each other.
Its a healthy competition and theres more than enough work to go around, Heyne said.
